Partly cloudy weather with possible rain showers, thunderstorms to prevail across PH
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday, June 20 that parts of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy weather with possible rain showers or thunderstorms due to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) and localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA weather specialist Grace Castañeda said rain showers and thunderstorms will be more frequent in Mindanao because of the prevalence of the ITCZ—a weather system that occurs when winds from the northern and southern hemispheres converge.
The rest of the country may also experience isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon or evening, due to localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA said severe thunderstorms often bring heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusts of wind, and sometimes hail.
The public is advised to exercise caution during severe thunderstorms, as these can result in landslides or flash floods, especially in areas that are vulnerable to these hazards.
