Marikina LGU holds traditional pilgrimage to Antipolo Shrine
The Marikina City local government renewed its traditional pilgrimage to Antipolo City to visit the National Shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage on Monday, June 19.
Led by Marikina City Mayor Marcelino "Marcy" Teodoro, the "Ahunan sa Antipolo ng mga taga-Marikina" has been a tradition of Marikineños as part of their devotion and faith towards the Virgin Mary.
Aside from the mayor, Marikina City Rep. Maan Teodoro, Vice Mayor Marion Andres, other city government officials and employees, members of the parochial church of Marikina, and shoemakers from the city also joined the pilgrimage which was shelved in the last three years due to restrictions brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Ngayong taon, ito ay kinatampukan ng prusisyon na sinundan ng pagdiriwang ng Banal na Misa sa Dambana ng Mahal na Birhen ng Kapayapaan at Mabuting Paglalakbay. Matapos nito, nagkaroon ng salu-salo at palatuntunan ang mga lumahok sa Parish of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (This year, we conducted a procession followed by a Holy Mass at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage. A feast and a program were also held by those who participated at the Parish of the Immaculate Heart of Mary)," Marikina's Public Information Office (PIO) said.
It added that the Ahunan sa Antipolo has since been a tradition of Marikeños even before the start of World War II. The city government started to actively participate in the tradition in 1986.
