Hindy Weber, fashion designer, holistic/wellness teacher, and supermom, shared her inspiring story on Instagram about how she won an amateur Muay Thai fight—at the age of 49.
The fashion enthusiast was never hesitant to try something new, regardless of the risks involved. "I knew I had to do it - despite the fear of injury, a concussion, coma, and shame. Israel Adesanya (athlete whom she follows) was right... ‘You'll never feel this level of happiness if you don't go for something in your own life.’ The power of our inner knowing...," Hindy shared. She also shared that she won't ever forget how her coach and son inspired her to stand up and unleash her powerful punches that knocked out her opponent. "I felt blank, totally lost. I guess I was in shock—having never been in the ring with someone who wanted to knock me out. It's a whole different level from training. Not to mention, I was more than double her age. Then before I could quit, the bell rang for Round 2. I was forced to keep fighting. I could finally hear my coach and my son Lucas scream "Hands up!" "block!" and so I did," Hindy remembered.
"I fell back down and all l could hear was my son's voice, "Get up, Mom! It's ok. It doesn't count. Just get up!" So I did what any good mom would do and listened to my boy. I got up and kept pushing on. I stopped caring about my stance, breaking my nose or even getting knocked out. I just kept looking for the path in. I told myself to forget the combos, and just go with what was natural," she added. “My corner wasn’t so quiet anymore. Haha! I felt some excitement compared to Round 1 where I felt they were all worried and feeling hopeless. When Round 3 started, my head was clearer, adrenaline was in full force and I made more strategic moves. She got TKO twice. And so, I won. It’s been over two weeks and it still gives me butterflies and a rush,” she posted. Hindy emphasizes how her determination, bravery, and ability to overcome her fears enabled her to achieve a victory she believed was impossible. "I just wanted to try it, face the fear, train like an athlete, face the risk of getting hurt, and come out the other end, standing. To have won my first fight is beyond what I could have ever dreamed. I was sure to get knocked out after Round 1. My opponent was so incredibly powerful with her punches, I immediately asked myself, "What am I doing here?" Go back home to my comfy cozy world in Laguna, play with my kids, make clothes, teach gardening, walk my doggie," she revealed.
Despite all these doubts, she stayed on track. “But there has always been something in me that felt very kung fu. That might sound stupid to some of you. So be it. Is it a past life thing? A childhood trauma? Or simply my wild imagination? I don’t know but it’s in there,” She ends her post with a reminder on what being human is all about. “I hope you all know how amazing life is despite its ugly, sad, scary side. There is no greater task for us humans than to overcome fear, embrace the unknown, rely on love above all, face ourselves with courage to be in truth, and to have faith in our innate power.”
