Gilas head coach Chot Reyes disclosed this on social media Tuesday, June 20, adding that Brownlee had to undergo a “non-basketball medical procedure” that caused the naturalized big man to miss training in the Philippines. “So he will just meet us in Estonia,” Reyes said. Reyes also shared a video of the team warming up for their last practice inside the Inspire Sports Academy in Laguna, where they held a short closed-door training camp. Brownlee missed the said training camp, as well as their previous training at the Meralco gym in Pasig. Gilas is set to leave for Estonia on Thursday, June 22, where they are scheduled to play Finland and Estonia in a series of pocket games. They are also eyeing friendly matches against national teams from Latvia and top clubs in Lithuania. Brownlee, also the resident Barangay Ginebra import, powered the Nationals to a redemption campaign at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games where they reclaimed the gold medal against heavy favorite and host Cambodia. He was named as part of Gilas pool for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup along with Utah Jazz standout Jordan Clarkson. Gilas has been working overtime the past days for the Europe training by doing twice-a-day training sessions to make up for lost time after injuries and absences hampered the team. Among those who joined the training camp in Calamba were Scottie Thompson, Japeth Aguilar, CJ Perez and Poy Erram, to name a few.
