Laguna police director Police Col. Randy Glenn Silvio withheld the names of the five suspects who are all minors and residents of Biñan City.

Biñan City police chief Lt. Col. Virgilio Jopia said that on Saturday, June 17, the victim went to the police station and reported that his car was carnapped by unidentified persons.

Police immediately readied a hot-pursuit operation involving the Regional Highway Patrol Unit 4-A Motorcycle Team and Laguna Provincial Highway Patrol Team at around 6:30 p.m. on June 18.

The suspects were arrested at Phoenix Fuel Station, Barangay Canlalay, Biñan City.

It was learned that the suspects planned to sell the car they stole but it failed when they were cornered by police following information relayed by a concerned citizen.

Police recovered the Toyota Altis and an iPhone 12 Promax owned by the victim.

The suspects were turned over to the office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Bahay Pag-Asa for custody while waiting for formal complaints to be filed against them in relation to Republic Act 10883 (New Anti-Carnapping Law of 2016).

Silvio said that the Laguna Philippine National Police will continue to implement the fight against criminality in the entire province to carry out the directive of Police Regional Office 4-A Director Police Brig. Gen. Carlito Gaces to intensify operations and suppress all types of criminality.

“I am reminding the parents to always guide their children so that they don't get involved in such incidents," he said.
