Bulacan Governor Daniel R. Fernando urged Bulakenyos to live by the teachings and aspirations of Dr. Jose Rizal during the commemoration of the 162nd birth anniversary of the Philippine National Hero held at the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Museo ng Kasaysayang Pampulitika ng Pilipinas at Casa Real in the City of Malolos, Bulacan on Monday, June 19.

“May we ignite our love for our country and our determination to be true heroes in our activities and actions. Let us live by his teachings and aspirations so that his spirit will continue to shine in each one of us.” the governor said.

Fernando was joined by Bulacan Vice Governor Alexis C. Castro, Malolos City Vice Mayor Miguel Alberto T. Bautista, and Provincial History, Arts, Culture and Tourism Office Department Head Dr. Eliseo S. Dela Cruz during the event.

He also reminded his fellow Bulakenyos about Rizal’s heroic actions and for them to reflect and carry on Rizal’s remarkable legacy.

“Sa kanyang kabayanihan, hinamon tayo ni Gat Jose Rizal na patuloy na magsikap para sa pag-unlad at pagkakaisa ng ating lalawigan. Ngayon, hinihikayat ko ang bawat Bulakenyo na samantalahin ang diwa ng pagiging bayani sa ating mga sarili. Magpamalas tayo ng katapangan, husay, at malasakit sa bawat gawain at adhikain na ating pinaglilingkuran,” (In his heroism, Gat Jose Rizal challenged us to continue striving toward development and unity of our province. Now, I encourage every Bulakenyo to become a hero in their own way. Let us show our bravery,  efficiency, and concern for our people)," Fernando said.

Dr. Jose Rizal was admired for his nationalistic writings and activities and was executed on December 30, 1896 by the Spanish colonial government.

From Casa Real in Malolos City, Governor Fernando, and Vice Gov. Castro proceeded to attend the inauguration and unveiling of the life-size monument of Dr. Jose Rizal in front of the Meycauayan City Hall.
