Caloocan gov’t plans to split Brgy. Bagong Silang into six separate villages

The Caloocan City government plans to split Barangay Bagong Silang into six separate villages to improve the delivery of services to city residents, Caloocan City District 1 Representative Oscar “Oca” Malapitan confirmed on Monday, June 19.

In a phone interview with Manila Bulletin, Malapitan said he submitted a bill to the House of Representatives proposing the division of Barangay Bagong Silang, the biggest and most populated barangay in the country, to ensure that the aid to the residents will be given to them better and faster unlike what happened during the Covid-19 pandemic where they had a hard time distributing “ayuda” or help.

Malapitan introduced House Bill No. 5819 or “An Act Dividing Barangay 176, also known as Barangay Bagong Silang, in the City of Caloocan into six (6) separate and independent barangays to be known as Barangay 176-A, Barangay 176-B, Barangay 176-C, Barangay 176-D, Barangay 176-E, and Barangay 176-F,” to the House of Representatives (19th Congress) on Nov. 7, 2022.

According to the city government, the bill was approved by the House on Nov. 21, 2022 and was transmitted to the Senate on Nov. 22, 2023.

The local government said that officials in the said barangay have already pinpointed the territories of the new villages which will be implemented once the Senate officially approves the bill.

Currently, there are around 300,000 residents living in  Barangay Bagong Silang, according to the city government.

Caloocan City Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan has expressed full support to the planned split of Barangay Bagong Silang, which he called a "baby factory," to bring the city government’s services closer to its people. Bagong Silang, translated into English, means newborn.
