Forty newly promoted generals and flag officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) were sworn in by the Commander-in-Chief, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., at the Malacanang Palace in Manila on Monday, June 19.

* Promoted were 24 generals from the Philippine Army (PA), eight flag officers and marine generals from the Philippine Navy (PN), six generals from the Philippine Air Force (PAF), and two brigadier generals/commodores from the AFP’s Technical and Administrative Service. From the Army, there are 10 new brigadier generals (one-star) and 14 major generals (two-star). They are Maj. Gen. Steve D. Crespillo, Army Vice Commander; Maj. Gen. Rogelio D. Ulanday, commander of Army Support Command; Maj. Gen. Marion R. Sison, commander of 3rd Infantry Division; Maj. Gen. Luis Rex D. Bergante, commander of Training and Doctrine Command; Army Inspector General Rommel K. Tello; Maj. Gen. Ferdinand T. Barandon, AFP Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence; Maj. Gen. Fernando M. Reyeg, AFP Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations; Maj. Gen. Rey B. Alemania, AFP Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics; Maj. Gen. Joel Alejandro S. Nacnac, AFP Deputy Chief of Staff for Retiree and Reservist Affairs; and Maj. Gen. Proceso S. Rebancos, AFP Chief Engineer. Meanwhile, Lt. Gen. Charlton Sean Gaerlan, the AFP Deputy Chief of Staff (TDCS), obtained his third star for the navy-marine group. Also promoted were Major Gen. Noel Beleran, Assistant DCS for Education, Training, and Doctrine; Rear Adm. Alfonso Torres, commander of Naval Education, Training, and Doctrine Command; Rear Adm. Mac Raul Racacho, commander of Naval Sea Systems Command (NSSC); Commo. Carlo Lagasca, commander of Littoral Combat Force; Commo. Rommel Labrador, NSSC deputy commander; Commo. Rolando Sarmiento, commander of Naval Combat Engineer Brigade; and Commo. Juario Marayag, commander of Naval Air Wing. Marcos also administered the oath to newly promoted PAF generals led by Lt. Gen. Fernyl G. Buca, commander of the Northern Luzon Command; Maj. Gen. Teofilo R. Bailon Jr., Air Force Inspector General; Maj. Gen. Elpidio B. Talja, commander of Air Force Reserve Command; Brig. Gen. Federico B. Enriquez, wing commander of 220th Airlift Wing; Brig. Gen. Amado V. Dela Paz, deputy commander of Western Command; and Brig. Gen. Aldrin S. Annani, wing commander of 250th Presidential Airlift Wing. In his keynote address, the Commander-in-Chief described the military officials’ ascent to a higher position as "a testament to true capabilities and proof of your mettle in the most perilous yet unparalleled profession." "Your strategic leadership will be the fulcrum and the compass so that the AFP will move in the right direction, guided by the constitution, and the democratic principles that we have all sworn to uphold," Marcos said. He also urged the military officials to consistently uphold an exemplary leadership and a clear vision for the AFP amid challenges of nation-building and national security that the country continues to endure. "Your collective toil through the years while rising through the ranks not only has secured our country and our people, it has also laid the foundations that allow us now to build for tomorrow," Marcos added. The oath taking ceremony was witnessed by top ranking defense and military officials led by Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Gilberto “Gibo” Teodoro Jr. and AFP Chief of Staff General Andres Centino.
