12-wheeler truck hits LRT-2 post in Antipolo City; 2 hurt
A 12-wheeler truck crashed into a post of the Light Rail Transit (LRT)-2 line along Marcos Highway in Antipolo City, Rizal on Tuesday, June 20, Antipolo City Mayor Jun Ynares said.
According to the authorities, the accident occurred in front of Vermont Park Subdivision in Barangay Mayamot. The driver of the truck, identified as John Emil De Guzman, said that he and his passenger were cruising along Marcos Highway at past 6 a.m. when the driver of a car in front of them suddenly hit the brakes. This forced him to swerve the truck to avoid hitting the car and other motorists and rammed into the post. Due to the force of the impact, both he and his passenger sustained injuries and both complained of headache and dizziness. The Antipolo City Traffic said De Guzman will face charges of Reckless Driving resulting to Damage to Property. Meanwhile, witnesses around the area expressed their relief as the post where the truck crashed into prevented it from hitting a nearby gasoline station on the opposite lane. The LRT-2 Safety Inspection Team which arrived at the scene reported that the post maintained its structural integrity and was left undamaged by the crash. It added that the operation of the LRT-2 was also unaffected by the incident and that the management will coordinate with the trucking company to discuss its liability. Ynares warned motorists of heavy traffic build-up in the area as the truck has not been removed as of this posting.
