'Team' showbiz writers hold gift-giving, feeding at Child Haus

The showbiz writers group known as The Entertainment Arts & Media (TEAM) held one of its annual civic projects, a gift-giving, and feeding at Child Haus in Paco, Manila last May 28.

Child Haus is a halfway dormitory for children and youth stricken with cancer and living outside Metro Manila. They need a temporary shelter in the city while availing of medical treatment in the city.

One parent or guardian of the children and other minors are allowed to stay in the dormitory.

The dormitory is a seven-story building at F. Agoncillo St. donated to the Child Haus Foundation by Hans Sy of the SM chain of malls.

The foundation for child care was initiated by beauty salon magnate-philanthropist Ricky Reyes. The foundation has been managing Child Haus for about 20 years now, with Daydee Tan Castillo as senior admin staff.

The TEAM brought sacks of rice, bread, milk powder, soap and toiletries, energy drinks, vitamins, chocolate bars, stuffed toys, shawls, and Beautederm products, including very handy sanitizers.

Beautederm CEO Rhea Anicoche-Tan, TV host Boy Abunda, and movie producer Bryan Dy, supported the project.

Lunch was provided by Kusina Manileño, courtesy of Manila Vice Mayor Yul Servo Nieto, Alina Sison of Dadas Litson, and Tine Areola's Bait Lehem Breads.

Bags of chocolates from Sandbox Chocolates and Convenience Store from the Salas family-Erika Mae, Lilibeth & Emil were distributed to the kids.

The showbiz scribes and photographers also brought in upcoming young stars and talents to entertain the children, youth, their parents, and guardians. Among them were Star Music recording artist Janah Zaplan, Jhassy Busran, Christa Jocson, Erika Mae Salas, Shira Tweg, Heindrick Sitjar, MJ Manuel, Russ Garcia, and Kheiyzer Arena.

Singer-philanthropist Emma Cordero, actress-turned-businesswoman Azenith Briones sent financial support, as well as Makati councilor Ina Sarosa and DSWD Undersecretary Nina Taduran, also a professional broadcaster.

The event kicked off with a holy mass celebrated by Rev. Fr. Sal Anthony Dumabok, MNSA, assisted by Rev. Fr Eleno Nemis, FSHF. Fr. Dumabok is an amputee with a prosthetic leg, and Fr. Nemis has been assisting him in his mass celebration. Fr. Dumabok delivers witty, inspiring homilies.
