Thirdy Ravena working on outside shooting, hopes to make Gilas 12
Thirdy Ravena is looking to spend the next two months of Gilas Pilipinas training in honing his whole game particularly his outside shooting in hopes to be part of the Final 12 that will see action in the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
The younger of the two Ravenas in the pool, Thirdy would spend a couple of more hours at the end of every Gilas practice at the Meralco Gym last week to do extra shooting from the three-point territory. “I'm just working my hardest na ma-improve ko kasi obviously shooting is gonna be a big key in the World Cup kasi mas malalakas na yung kalaban, mas mabibilis, mas mataas tumalon,” said Ravena who was also fresh off signing a new deal with San-En Neophoenix in the B.League. “I’m just having that mentality na ilang days na lang, we’re there, so lahat ng mai-improve on sinusubukan kong ma-improve,” he added. Ravena said he also had some extra motivation to make it to the final roster as he has been looking forward to playing in the world stage ever since seeing the Gilas 2014 team led by La Tenorio, Jimmy Alapag and Gabe Norwood. Ravena has been part of Gilas during the World Cup qualifiers where he saw action for a couple of games in the first and second round. “Ito 'yung bagay na hinihintay ko nang matagal na since 2015, 'nung nakita ko yung mga kuya ko na naglalaro sa world cup ito na yung pinagarap ko,” he stressed. “Ngayon may chance ako na makapasok sa team. We are in the pool,” he added. The high-flying forward though will have to battle for the spot in the wing position with the pool also having the likes of Jamie Malonzo, Calvin Oftana, Bobby Ray Parks and Rhenz Abando.
