A convicted Filipino national in Syria has been released from a women's prison in the Syrian capital, Damascus, the Philippine Embassy in Syria said Monday.
The female national, whose charges were not disclosed by the embassy, was already repatriated to the Philippines and arrived in Manila the next day after her release from the Central Prison of Adra for Women.

"Due to the mutual cooperation and the exerted efforts by the Philippine Embassy and the Syrian Authorities, the specialized criminal court of Damascus has issued the order to release the said Filipino national and to hand her over to the Philippine Authorities after the plaintiff dropped their right," the embassy said. Before her departure from Syria, the Filipina stayed at the Detention Center for Foreigners at the Immigration and Passport Department as she waited for the final approval from the Syrian Interior Ministry and for her exit visa. There, she was provided necessary assistance by the embassy through its Assistance to Nationals (ATN) team.
