Nika Juris Nikolas has big dreams for her young career after the National Chess Federation of the Philippines conferred her the National Master title recently.

In an interview with Radyo Pilipinas 2, the 10-year-old chess whiz admitted she wanted to adopt the playing style of her idols, Grandmaster Eugene Torre and Woman Grandmaster Janelle Mae Frayna. She also said she aims to claim the GM title by age 14 and to win numerous international tournaments. And if it wasn’t enough, she dreamed of playing face-to-face with world No. 1 Magnus Carlsen someday. Recently, Nicolas won the Under-11 boys division of the National Youth Chess and Schools Championships Grand Finals, where she was the only female participant in the category. The chess prodigy is currently competing in the ASEAN Age Group Chess Championships in Bangkok, Thailand that started last Saturday, June 17.
