Remolino, 10 others to compete in Asian Junior and U23 Triathlon tourney
The Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP) will be sending 11 athletes to the Asian Junior and U23 Triathlon Championships on June 24 to 25 in Gamagori, Japan.
TRAP President Tom Carrasco said the Asian tournament is part of the association’s selection process for the PH team that will compete in the 19thAsian Games in Hangzhou, China late September. Andrew Kim Remolino, who won the bronze in the 32ndSoutheast Asian Games in Cambodia last month, spearheads the squad that is composed of Iñaki Lorbes, Juan Francisco Baniqued, Joshua Alexander Ramos, Raven Faith Alcoseba, Erika Burgos, Gene Heart Quiambao, Kira Ellis, Lady Samantha Corpuz, Matthew Hermosa and Dayshaun Karl Ramos. Hermosa, Ellis, Burgos and Lorbes actually made heads turn in the SEAG after winning the mixed team relay gold medal in aquathlon. Remolino also clinched the aquathlon silver in the biennial meet. “This is part of our long-term program to maximize exposure in world class competitions and high performance training camps for our triathletes with high potential,” said Carrasco. “Their performances in these events will likewise be a basis for selection to the Asian Games in Hangzhou plus the results of the recent Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia,” said Carrasco. Ani de Leon-Brown will coach the team and will be accompanied by Louann Ramos, Andoy Remolino and TrAP secretary-general Mon Marchan.
