Pasig LGU deploys task forces to combat dengue

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto said the local government has deployed three Dengue Task Forces to combat and mitigate the spread of dengue in the city. Sotto explained that two of the teams are roaming around the city, especially in areas that have detected the most cases of dengue. The third team, led by Sotto and other city officials, conducts daily "Oplan Kaayusan" activities in several barangays. Based on data from the Pasig Dengue Task Force, children four years-old and below make up the majority of the dengue cases (a total of 152) in the city from January to May 2023; 83 of which were male, and 69 were female. They are followed by children ages five to nine with 129 cases (70 male, 59 female), ages 10 to 14 with 107 cases (59 male, 48 female), and ages 15 to 19 with 57 cases (30 male, 27 female). Many young adults have also fallen ill with dengue - 43 cases (17 male, 26 female) were logged for individuals aged 20 to 24 years-old, 42 cases (28 male, 14 female) for 25 to 29 year-olds, and 34 cases within the 30 to 34 year-old age group. The 55 to 59 year-old age group saw the least number of dengue cases with only five recorded by the task force for the first five months of the year. Among the 623 total dengue cases, 142 females and 185 males were admitted in the city's hospitals. Meanwhile, 136 female and 160 male persons diagnosed with dengue were not admitted. "Rest assured na ginagawa namin ang lahat para ma-minimize ang bilang ng dengue sa ating lungsod (Rest assured, we are doing everything to minimize the number of dengue cases in our city)," Sotto said. The Pasig Dengue Task Force joined the Region-wide Synchronized Dengue Clean Up Drive for the month of June to celebrate Dengue Awareness Month. The task force coordinated with the city's 30 barangays to conduct cleaning, clearing, and fogging operations, following the "5S method." The 5S method consists of  searching and destroying mosquito breeding places; self-protection; seeking early consultation when experiencing dengue symptoms; supporting fogging and spraying in areas considered as dengue "hotspots;" and sustaining hydration.
