Most of the country may experience “fair” weather due to partly cloudy to cloudy conditions, with a chance of isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday, June 18.
PAGASA weather specialist Grace Castañeda said the weather will be quite warm, particularly in Luzon, but there will still be chances of isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon or evening due to localized thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, she said the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) and localized thunderstorms may continue to bring occasional moderate to heavy rains over Mindanao.
ITCZ is a weather system that occurs when winds from the northern and southern hemispheres converge, resulting in rains.
PAGASA advised the public to exercise caution during severe thunderstorms, as these may trigger landslides or flash floods, especially in areas that are vulnerable to these hazards.
Castañeda said the weather bureau has not monitored a low pressure area (LPA) or tropical cyclone that may affect the country as of Sunday.
However, because of the prevalence of the ITCZ, she said PAGASA is not ruling out the possibility of an LPA forming near Mindanao in the coming days.
