Negros governor seeks in-depth probe on Himamaylan massacre

BACOLOD CITY – Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson has urged law enforcement authorities to conduct an in-depth investigation on the massacre of four family members in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental early this week. (Photo courtesy of Negros Occidental police) The Fausto family – Emilda, 49, her husband Rolly, 52, and their two sons aged 11 and 15 – were shot dead by unidentified assailants at their residence in Sitio Kangkiling, Barangay Buenavista on Wednesday night, June 14. Lacson condemned the killing, and said that the perpetrators must be brought to justice as soon as possible. “Such brutality that threatens to destabilize our province and destroy the peace of our people, has no place in our society,” the governor said in a statement. Lacson said that the massacre of innocent civilians is an outrage to the morals, values, and commitment to peace and justice. “My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families in this difficult time,” he said. He called on Negrenses to be united in condemning this act of violence. “Together, let us sustain and protect the gains of our collective efforts for a more peaceful and progressive province,” he said. The New People’s Army (NPA) has earlier slammed the Army for the said brutal killing, but the latter denied the accusation, saying that they are just desperate to tarnish the reputation of the Army in the province, and to cover up the truth. Meanwhile, Police Col. Leo Pamittan, Negros Occidental police director, visited the wake of the Fausto family and extended financial and in-kind assistance to the bereaved family of the victims on Friday, June 16.
