Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan led the tree-planting activity in Arroceros Park in Manila Friday morning, June 16. According to Mayor Honey, the main purpose of the tree-planting activity is to encourage the Manileños to keep their environment clean and to see more plants in the city. She said Caballero, Bignay, Kalumpit, and Lipote trees were planted in different areas in the city's 6 districts to help prevent major flooding in the city. "Alam naman po ninyo na highly urbanized po ang Manila pero sinisikap po namin na 'yung maliliit na espasyo dito sa Maynila eh talagang mapuno namin ng puno (You know that Manila is highly urbanized, but we are trying to fill the small spaces here in Manila with trees and plants)," Mayor Honey said. "Sinisiguro po namin na ito po ay mapapanatili namin na maayos at maganda hindi lang po para sa aming lungsod, kundi para rin po sa mga dadayo rito (We assure you that we can keep it neat and beautiful not only for our city but also for those who will visit here)," the mayor added. Mayor Honey said the Manileños and other neighboring cities can come and visit the Arroceros Forest Park for free. The Arroceros Forest Park is home to over 3,500 trees of different varieties with different bird species. There are also a fish pond, a bridge, and a riverside walk.
