BUTUAN CITY – A magnitude-4.5 earthquake jolted Davao Occidental province on Saturday morning, June 17.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the earthquake was registered at 4:52 a.m. and its epicentre was traced 357 kilometers (kms) southeast of Balut Island in the municipality of Sarangani, Davao Occidental.
The tremor had a shallow depth of only one kilometer, Phivolcs said.
No damage or aftershocks were expected from the tectonic earthquake caused by the movement of an active fault in the area.
The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Southern Mindanao and Davao Occidental Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported no damage or injury from the earthquake.
