True to his word, Albay 3rd district Rep. Fernando "Didi" Cabredo launched a community pantry for his constituents who were temporarily living in evacuation centers as a result of Mayon Volcano's rumblings. Cabredo on Saturday, June 17 posted photos of the launch of the community pantry, which offered a wide selection of vegetables that the evacuees can choose from. They're free, of course. "Vegetables and crops are locally sourced from various women planters organizations in the 3rd [d]istrict of Albay #TaranumanSa3DAlbay," read the post from the congressman's Facebook.

Earlier, Cabredo relayed to House Speaker Martin Romualdez's office that the P500,000 cash assistance that it gave in connection with the Mayon situation would be used to set up the community pantry. Romualdez welcomed the idea, saying: "It's very heartwarming to see the return of the community pantry during this situation in Albay. Community pantries symbolized malasakit (compassion) and hope for Filipinos during the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic." "I am happy and humbled to serve as an instrument of this laudable initiative that would benefit the evacuees," he added.
