Bohol Gov. Aris Aumentado said among those that are interested in opening a route to the province is Asiana Airlines.

“We are excited that more airlines are coming in,” said Aumentado.

The governor was recently visited by Asiana Airlines station head Israel Yclino and Manuel Cortes, station head of Air Busan.

Also present during the meeting were officials from Transnational Aviation Support Services Inc.

“We were told that they are looking at Bohol as the hub of Asiana Airlines. They said that ‘Bohol is now on the radar.’ This is going to be a big development for Bohol,” Aumentado said.

Aumentado added that it was discussed during the meeting that Eva Air and Singapore Airlines are also planning to open routes to Bohol.

For them to open routes to Bohol, Asiana Airlines requested that a check-in counter be provided for them, Aumentado said.

Aumentado said that currently, check-in counters at Panglao Airport are being exclusively occupied by two airline companies.

“Under international policy, you cannot own a check-in counter. When an airline is done using the check-in counter, they have to vacate it so that another airline can use it,” said Aumentado.

Aumentado said Asiana Airlines’ concerns and other issues concerning the Panglao Airport will be discussed during his scheduled meeting with officials from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines.
