5.6-magnitude quake rocks Northern Luzon


VIGAN CITY – A moderately strong tectonic earthquake with a strength of 5.6 magnitude rocked the provinces in extreme Northern Luzon on Saturday night, but no damage initially reported here.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported that the quake occurred at 6:15 p.m., with epicenter located at 10 kilometers northwest of Dalupiri Island, Calayan, Cagayan and with a depth of 53 kilometers.

Phivolcs also reported that intensity IV was felt in Pasuquin and Burgos, both in Ilocos Norte, and Calayan, Cagayan. 

Intensity III was felt in Pagudpud and Laoag City, Ilocos Norte; and Aparri, Cagayan; Intensity II in City of Batac, Ilocos Norte; Gonzaga, and Peñablanca, Cagayan; and Intensity I in City of Vigan.

Philvocs advised the residents to take an extra precaution after the quake as it is forecast to have aftershock.
