A total of 160 couples from the City of Manila tied the knot in the city's "Kasalang Bayan" on Saturday, June 17. Some 60 couples exchanged their "I dos" in a mass wedding held at San Agustin Church, while 100 couples sealed their union in a civil wedding at Pamantasan Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM). The two wedding ceremonies were part of the Manila June Bride, which is a sponsored wedding project of the city government for couples to legally seal and solemnized their union. Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan and Vice Mayor John Marvin "Yul" Servo Nieto graced the ceremonial events. The mass wedding was presided over by San Agustin Parish priest Fr. Reynante Balilo. "Maswerte kayo kasi ramdam ng ina ng lungsod ng Maynila ang kahalagahan ng kasal sa dalawang nagmamahalan at pinahahalagahan niya ang sagrado ng matrimonyo na tatanggapin ng atin 60 na ikakasal ngayon (You are lucky because the mother of the City of Manila knows the importance of marriage and she appreciates the sacredness of marriage that the 60 couples will accept today)," Fr. Balilo said. He noted that 60 out of more than a hundred couples have completed the requirements for the mass wedding. Meanwhile, Lacuna-Pangan legally bonded the 100 couples during the civil wedding ceremony.
