BUTUAN CITY -- A magnitude 4.4 earthquake jolted the island province of Tawi-Tawi in Sulu Archipelago on Friday morning, June 16, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the earthquake was registered at 4:41 a.m., and its epicenter was plotted 369 kilometers (kms) southeast of South Ubian, Tawi-Tawi province, the state agency said.
The tremor had a depth of 486 kms, Phivolcs said.
No damage or aftershocks are expected from the tectonic earthquake caused by the movement of an active fault in the area of Southwestern Mindanao Region, the state agency added.
The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Zamboanga Peninsula or The Southwestern Mindanao region also reported no damage or injury.
