DPWH-Region 2 steps up campaign vs climate change, plants 600 narra seedlings in Cagayan

PEÑABLANCA, Cagayan -- Employees of the Department of Public Works and Highways-Region 2 planted 600 seedlings of narra trees at the San Roque Watershed in Peñablanca, Cagayan on Friday, June 16.

Alex Suyu, forest ranger of Metropolitan Tuguegarao Water District (MTWD), said the activity will benefit the farmers, especially since the watershed is the source of water for the farmlands in Callao, Sisim, Nanarian, San Roque, and Dodan.

He lauded DPWH-Region 2 for the initiative as planting trees is the first step towards addressing climate change.

"Maganda itong ginawa ng DPWH para malabanan natin ang climate change. Hindi man siguro ito mapipigilan ngunit kayang bawasan ang epekto nito sa ganitong mga paraaan (DPWH did a good thing to fight climate change. While, admittedly, climate change cannot be stopped, at least its effects can be minimized through this tree-planting),” said Suyu.

Likewise, DPWH-Region 2 Director Reynaldo C. Alconcel said that the regional office will continue to initiate tree-planting activities to combat climate change and its effects.

"Nakikita at ramdam na natin ang epekto ng climate change sa ating bansa kaya ipagpapatuloy natin sa DPWH-Region 2 ang pagsasagawa ng mga aktibidades na makatutulong para mabawasan ang epekto nito (We see and feel the effects of climate change in our country, so let us continue, DPWH-Region 2, with these activities to lessen the impact of climate change),” said Alconcel.
