6 hurt in alcohol container blast in Leyte elementary school


TACLOBAN CITY – Six elementary students were injured when an alcohol container exploded on Thursday, June 15, at Capoocan Central School, Poblacion Zone I, Capoocan, Leyte.

The victims, four boys and two girls, are all Grade 6 students who were reportedly left unattended in their classroom.

Initial investigation disclosed that one of the victims, Kheenly Mac Advincula, saw an empty bottle of alcohol placed on top of the supervisor’s table and decided to refill it.

He grabbed a gallon containing alcohol placed beside the table.

However, while he was refilling the container, one of their classmates, John Kyle Busañes, suddenly lit up a lighter towards the gallon being refilled, causing a sudden explosion that caused burns to the victims.

The victims were brought to Carigara District Hospital in Carigara, Leyte for treatment.
