34 aftershocks recorded after 6.3-magnitude Batangas quake — Phivolcs
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has so far recorded 34 aftershocks following the 6.3-magnitude earthquake that struck Calatagan, Batangas on June 15.
As of 12 p.m., Friday, June 16, Phivolcs had detected 34 aftershocks, with magnitudes ranging from 1.4 to 3.1.
Of the total recorded earthquakes, 16 were plotted quakes.
Plotted earthquakes were detected and measured by at least three Phivolcs seismic stations, where the date and time of occurrence, as well as the quake’s magnitude, location, and depth of focus, were determined.
However, Phivolcs said none of the tremors recorded were felt.
According to Phivolcs, the 6.3-magnitude quake was due to the movement in the Manila Trench—a major earthquake generator located offshore west of Luzon island, which is roughly parallel to the Philippine archipelago and is running from Taiwan to Occidental Mindoro.
