US embassy won't comment on ongoing PH-US diplomatic discussions
The US Embassy in Manila said Thursday it is already aware of the Senate of the Philippines' plan to conduct an inquiry into its request for Manila to let Afghan nationals stay in the country while waiting for their Special Immigrant Visa.
Stephen Dove, the acting spokesperson of the embassy, made the comment, but refrained from commenting further on the related resolution already drafted by Philippine lawmakers.
"We are aware of the draft resolution in the Philippines Senate... We do not comment on ongoing diplomatic discussions," Dove said.
"We refer you to the Government of the Philippines for further comment," he added.
Meanwhile, the embassy maintained its commitment for Afghan nationals seeking refuge in the US and would talk to Washington's allies to make it happen.
"The Biden administration remains committed to the thousands of brave Afghans who stood side-by-side with the United States over the course of the past two decades," Dove said.
"We regularly talk to our partners on issues of local, regional, and global importance," he added.
