The Fighting Maroons were just too hot to handle in the first half and continued the assault highlighted by a 19-6 run in the third which simply took the game out of reach for the helpless Pirates. With the win, UP will face the winner in the semifinal pairing of Perpetual and Far Eastern University. Harold Alarcon scattered 20 points, five rebounds and three assists while Malick Diouf had a double-double performance off 15 points and 10 rebounds that also went with two assists. Enoch Valdez registered 12 points and six rebounds for the Pirates in a losing effort. Meanwhile in the first game, Guang Ming College won over Letran, 84-79, but the latter will advance to the quarterfinals due to superior aggregate after it listed a 12-point 85-72 victory last Wednesday. The Knights will have their hands full as they face the No. 1 seed De La Salle Green Archers on Friday. In the second game, FEU eliminated Jose Maria College, 90-80, and will battle Perpetual in the quarterfinals.
