Scattered rain showers to prevail over parts of PH due to ITCZ, habagat
The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) and southwest monsoon will bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over parts of the country in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Thursday, June 15.
The ITCZ may cause cloudy weather with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in Palawan, Central Visayas, Western Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Soccskargen, Zamboanga Peninsula, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
It is a weather system that occurs when winds from the northern and southern hemispheres converge, resulting in rains.
Likewise, the southwest monsoon, locally known as "habagat," may cause cloudy weather with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and Ilocos Norte.
Due to moderate to intermittent heavy rains, PAGASA warned the public of the possibility of flash floods and landslides in areas affected by the ITCZ and southwest monsoon.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country can expect "fair weather" with partly cloudy to cloudy skies and a chance of isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
PAGASA advised the public to exercise caution during severe thunderstorms, as these may trigger landslides or flash floods, especially in areas that are vulnerable to these hazards.
