Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan led the "Manila Citywide Clean Up Drive" on Thursday, June 15.
Lacuna's group started the cleanup and hauling operations from Moriones to Juan Luna Streets in Tondo disrict.
She said the activity aims to control the number of cases of dengue and leptospirosis in the city.
Other city officials, including Vice Mayor John Marvin "Yul" Servo Nieto, joined the clean-up drives along the streets in their areas, while barangay officers and personnel led their own clean-up drives in their own villages.
The city department heads also held simultaneous clean-up drives in several areas throughout the city, including Onyx from Pedro Gil to Zobel Roxas, Zobel Roxas from Tejeron to Osmeña Highway, vicinity of Dangwa and Arranque markets, Road 10 from Barangay 105 to Smokey Mountain, Delpan Street from flyover to Zaragosa Street, and Taft Avenue from Vito Cruz to Manila City Hall.
The city government said the clean-up operation is an annual activity in line with the celebration of Manila Day.
It advised the residents to keep posted on its Facebook page for the announcements of the city's upcoming activities for the 452nd Manila Day celebration.
