Manila LGU employees, students evacuate due to earthquake
Manila City Hall employees and the students around the city evacuated the buildings as earthquake struck Thursday morning, June 15.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanoly and Seismology (Phivolcs, a 6.3-magnitude earthquake in Calatagan, Batangas was felt in Manila at Intensity IV around 10:19 a.m.
Personnel and employees at Manila City Hall and other nearby offices evacuated the premises, while students in different universities in Manila rushed to their school quadrangles for safety.
The Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) checked on schools, universities, offices, and museums in the city after the earthquake.
The roving operation of MDRRMO was conducted at Universidad de Manila (UDM), Philippine Normal University (PNU), Adamson University, and De La Salle University.
The visitors and employees of Pambansang Museo and the National Museum of Anthropology also evacuated to the open area quadrangle.
MDRRMO said no injuries or damages were reported in the said areas.
Meanwhile, eight students in Araullo High School reportedly felt dizzy and were rushed to the Araullo High School clinic for medication.
The city government said LRT-1 and LRT-2 operations were temporarily halted for the safety of the passengers.
The operation immediately resumed after the authorities ensured that no structural defects were reported. (Richielyn Canlas)
