Family of four massacred in Negros city

BACOLOD CITY – A family of four was killed by unidentified perpetrators at their residence in Sitio Kangkiling, Barangay Buenavista, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental on Wednesday, June 14.

(Photo courtesy of Negros Occidental police) The victims were identified as Rolly Fausto, 52; his wife Emilda, 49, and their two sons aged 11 and 15. The Fausto family relied on farming for livelihood, the police said. Police Lt. Col. Reynante Jomocan, Himamaylan police chief, said the perpetrators stormed the family’s house late in the evening and shot them. The incident was reported by their daughter to the police early the following day. Emilda and her two sons were found dead at their house while Rolly’s body was later found a few meters away from their house, according to the police. Jomocan said they are initially looking at the incident as insurgency-related, considering that the victims have relatives who are allegedly active members of the New People’s Army (NPA). Jomocan said they will conduct an investigation to look for other possible angles in the massacre. Earlier, the NPA had owned up to the death of two farmers, whom they claimed to be military assets, in Barangays Carabalan and Buenavista on June 2 and May 25, respectively. Series of clashes between the NPA rebels and the military troopers have also occurred in these two barangays early this year. Police Col. Leo Pamittan, Negros Occidental police director, appealed to the public and all the possible witnesses to cooperate with the police investigation. All information will be instrumental for a fast solution to the case and justice for the victims, he said in a statement.
