Of the said total number of early registrants, 970,190 kindergarten learners registered early for the incoming school year. This is higher compared to those who registered early in SY 2022- 2023 at 900,698.

For Grade 1, DepEd data showed there are 1,392,698 who participated in the early registration. This number is slightly lower compared to last year with 1,399,667 registrants.

The number of incoming Grade 7 students also showed a slight decrease --- from 983,987 in SY 2022-2023 to 971,149 in SY 2023-2024.

Meanwhile, there were more incoming Grade 11 learners who listed early this incoming school year. Based on DepEd’s data, 864,895 learners registered early for SY 2023-2024 compared to 845,209 in SY 2022-2023.

DepEd enjoined all incoming learners enrolling in Kindergarten and Grades 1, 7, and 11 in all public elementary and secondary schools to pre-register or participate in the early registration to allow the Department to “make the needed preparations and adjustments of plans” for the incoming SY.

Meanwhile, DepEd reiterated that incoming Grades 2-6, 8-10, and 12 learners from public schools are considered “pre-registered and do not need to participate in the early registration.”

Private schools were also encouraged to conduct their respective early registration activities.

As stated in DepEd Order 03 series of 2018, early registration refers to the “pre-registration of incoming Kindegarten, Grades 1, 7 and 11 learners which takes place prior to the opening of classes.”

Meanwhile, DepEd noted that those who "underwent the early registration process but are not considered officially enrolled” are considered “pre-registered” learners.

No approved school calendar yet

Meanwhile, DepEd Undersecretary and Spokesperson Michael Poa said that there is no approved Department Order yet on the school calendar for SY 2023-2024.

Poa said that DepEd is still “finalizing” the School Calendar and its guidelines which will also include other school opening-related activities such as the Brigada Eskwela.
