Barangay kagawad allegedly linked to criminal group nabbed in Bulacan for illegal possession of firearms
CAMP OLIVAS, City of San Fernando, Pampanga – A barangay kagawad who is allegedly a member of a big criminal group operating in Bulacan was arrested for illegal possession of firearms on Thursday, June 15.
The suspect, identified as Edgardo Cruz, 50, barangay kagawad of Barangay Umpucan in San Ildefonso, Bulacan, was arrested after joint operatives led by Police Lt. Col. Jay Dimaandal, chief of the Regional Special Operations Group-Regional Intelligence Group, and acting force commander of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 3, found various firearms in his possession during the implementation of search warrant at his
residence.
The search warrant was issued by Hermenigildo C. Dumlao II, Executive Judge, Regional Trial Court, Third Judicial Region, Branch 81, Malolos City, Bulacan.
Operating troops found the suspect possessing a 9mm pistol with magazine assembly loaded with ammunition, a caliber .380 pistol with magazine assembly loaded with three ammunitions, a caliber .38 revolver loaded with empty shells, and several ammunition for different pistols.
The suspect is said to be a member of the Reyes Criminal Gang that has been linked to robbery-holdup, carnapping, and gun-for-hire activities in San Ildefonso and nearby towns of Bulacan.
The suspect is now facing charges for violating Republic Act 10591, the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition.
