CEBU CITY – Authorities in Danao City, northern Cebu are taking steps that will make it difficult for students to skip classes.

To ensure that students will focus on their studies, lawmakers in the city are drafting local law that will prevent students from cutting classes.
City officials have been conducting public hearings for the crafting of an ordinance that will be titled “An ordinance prohibiting truancy among elementary, junior, and senior high school students in Danao City, for management and administration thereof.”
Coming up with the anti-truancy ordinance is part of the city government’s efforts to value the welfare of each Danaonon family, read an advisory posted on the city government’s official Facebook page.
The proposed anti-truancy ordinance will make sure that students are in school during school hours.
In the proposed ordinance, truancy is described as an intentional, unjustified, unauthorized, or illegal absence.
The ordinance will include prohibiting some business establishments from allowing students in their premises during school hours.
Students will only be allowed to leave school premises during emergencies, medical appointments, permitted school activities, or if they are accompanied by their parents or guardians.
The ordinance will also set penalties and recommendations for rescue and counseling.
Public announcement will be made once the ordinance is approved.
