UAE renews support to PH economy

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has reaffirmed its strong support for the Philippines' economy and environmental programs as it expressed appreciation for how the Philippine government perceived the UAE as a friendly country.

UAE Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary H.E. Mohamed Obaid Salem Alqataam Al-Zaabi said this during his courtesy visit to President Marcos on Tuesday, June 13. In his remarks, Ambassador Al-Zaabi said the UAE values the Philippines as one of its allies in Asia and that there were many companies in their country wanting to build their businesses in the Philippines. He emphasized that they wanted to introduce a new "platform knowledge" program where the Philippine and the UAE governments could exchange information to be covered by a memorandum of understanding (MOU), should President Marcos approve the proposal. “This program is to exchange information (between our) countries," Ambassador Al-Zaabi told President Marcos. "We have more than 40 countries now in this program,” he added. The President has directed Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin to draft an MOU on this, saying that he is looking forward to signing an agreement with the UAE. The exchange of information program was already introduced in Egypt, Spain, Jordan, and other countries. The program, launched in 2018, is a government exchange program by the Office of the Prime Minister of the UAE. In addition, Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos told President Marcos that the UAE invited the Philippine National Police (PNP) to study cybercrime-related cases, including scholarships for police officers.
