Pasig LGU awards cash incentives to young academic achievers

The Pasig City government gave cash incentives to 18 outstanding students who participated in various national and international academic competitions during a program at the Pasig City Hall Quadrangle on Tuesday, June 13.

In accordance with City Ordinance No. 105, s. 2023, awards and cash incentives will be given to Pasigueño students who are winners of national and international academic competitions. For national competitions, P5,000 will be given to bronze medalists, P10,000 to silver medalists, and P20,000 to gold medalists. For international competitions, gold medalists will receive P30,000; silver medalists will get P20,000, and bronze medalists will be given P10,000.

During the International Kangaroo Mathematics Contest 2023, the Grade 7 students brought home five bronze, one silver, and one gold medals; four bronze medals from Grade 8 students; another four bronze medals from Grade 9 students; and one bronze and one gold medals from Grade 10 students. Jared Aiden Jamon won a silver medal in the World Mathematics Invitational 2023 and Arwin Peter Castro won the silver medal in the finals round of the Thailand International Mathematical Olympiad 2023. Castro won a gold medal along with Luchielle Grace Morta who got a bronze medal at the final round of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Mathematical Olympiad 2023. Jamon also won a bronze medal in the Mathematics Without Boarders International Tournament (winter round). Meanwhile, Castro won another gold medal with Michael Jeremy Gomez who won a bronze medal in the World International Mathematics Olympiad. Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto congratulated the students for their exemplary achievements. “Alam kong hindi sila sumasali para sa mga financial incentives na 'yan, but it's good din na bigyan natin sila ng hindi lang recognition kundi incentives (I know they don't join for those financial incentives, but it's also good that we give them not only recognition but incentives)," said Sotto. "Let us continue to promote and foster an environment in Pasig City, now where the spirit of excellence thrives – in sports, academics, and in any other aspects," he added.
