DPWH braces for Mayon worse case scenario, prepositions teams, equipment
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has placed on standby around 340 of its personnel who were tasked to assist in disaster response in case the situation worsens amid the continuous rumblings of Mayon Volcano in Albay.
DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan said their 340-man Quick Response Assets Is equipped with various equipment necessary to ensure safety and immediate assistance to affected residents.
Bonoan said the Quick Response Assets will be monitoring the status of the national roads and bridges to ensure the safety of everyone.
“As part of the preparedness measure, we also identified alternate routes if situation worsens or incase some road sections need closure for safety,” said Bonoan.
In case the Legazpi-Sto. Domingo-Tabaco Road would be rendered not passable, he said their personnel would redirect traffic to Ligao- Tabaco Road as an alternative route.
Meanwhile, motorists can take the Camalig-Comun-Gapo-Peñafrancia Road if the Camalig Section of Daang Maharlika is closed. (Nicole Magmanlac)
