One of China's largest military ships, Qi Jiguang (Hull 83), arrived in Manila on Wednesday morning for a four-day goodwill port visit and public visitation.
Qi Jiguang, a training ship for China's People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN), docked at the Port of Manila around 9:50 a.m. with a festive ceremony headed by Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian and Rear Admiral Su Yinsheng.
Named after a Chinese Ming Dynasty (circa 16th century) hero navy officer, Qi Jiguang was commissioned in February 2017.

The largest and the most advanced naval training vessel designed and built by China, she made a first visit to the Philippines in January 2019. Before making another visit to Manila this year, Qi Jiguang already made a port visit to neighboring countries of Vietnam, Thailand and Brunei. The Chinese Embassy in Manila said the ship will stay in the Philippines until Saturday and will be open to the public. Visitors may board her at the Pier 15 in the South Harbor during the following schedules: • 3 pm to 5 pm on June 14, • 9 am to 11 am on June 15, and • 9 am to 11 am and 3 pm to 5 pm on June 16. "During their stay in Manila, the Chinese officers and cadets will visit a Philippine Naval Ship and conduct joint PASSEX among other professional exchanges before they take part in a friendship sports match with their Philippine counterparts," the embassy said. "The Qi Jiguang Training Ship will also host open-day activities, including a deck reception," it added.
