Cop, armed man wounded in Bacoor gunfight; P81K 'shabu' seized
CAVITE – A policeman and an armed man were wounded in a shootout in Bacoor City on Sunday, June 11.
Cavite Police Provincial Office (PPO) identified the wounded suspect as Eugene Palicpic and cohort as Alberto Cezar.
Prior to the shooting, City Police Station (CPS) received a report about a person carrying a short firearm in Barangay Zapote 2.
Upon the arrival of the responding team at the location, Palicpic allegedly fired shots at the lawmen, hitting Patrolman Mark Paolo Quizon in the right chest and arm.
The law enforcers fired back, hitting the right arm of Palicpic, who tried to flee with Cezar.
Palicpic was later collared in a hot pursuit operation.
The Provincial Forensic Unit was requested to process the crime scene where they recovered a .45-caliber gun and a transparent plastic sachet containing suspected “shabu” with an estimated street value of P81,600.
Palicpic was brought to Southern Tagalog Regional Hospital, while Patrolman Quizon was taken to St. Dominic Medical Hospital. Both have received medical treatment and are in stable condition.
Bacoor CPS is currently conducting a hot pursuit operation to locate Cezar.
In a statement, Police Regional Office 4A director Brig. Gen. Carlito M. Gaces commended Cavite Police’s swift action that led to the arrest of the suspect. He said the safety and security of the community, as well as the welfare of police personnel, are top priorities.
Col. Christopher Olazo, Cavite PPO director, meanwhile, called on citizens to report any information related to the incident that could help the police investigation.
