The Muntinlupa City Council unanimously approved on June 13 a resolution expressing condolences and honoring the late former senator, congressman and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief of staff Rodolfo Biazon.  [Biazon passed away on June 12](https://mb.com.ph/2023/6/12/ex-senator-rodolfo-biazon-passes-away-at-88) after a bout with lung cancer and pneumonia. Chito Rojas (right), gives a salute to Rodolfo Biazon in the hospital on June 11 (Photo from Mayor Ruffy Biazon) He served as Muntinlupa’s congressman from 2010 to 2016, senator from 1992 to 1995 and 1998 to 2010, and AFP chief of staff in 1991.  The Muntinlupa City Council approved the “resolution expressing heartfelt condolences to the family of the late former Senator, former AFP Chief of Staff and former Muntinlupa Congressman, Rodolfo "Pong" Gaspar Biazon and deepest gratitude for his life of patriotism, dedication to duty and invaluable service to the City of Muntinlupa and to the whole country, making us all proud as fellow Muntinlupeños.”  “On June 12, 2023, on the historic occasion of the 125th year anniversary of the country's "Independence Day", our very own "nakakaproud na kababayan", distinguished Muntinlupeño, former Senator Rodolfo ‘Pong’ Gaspar Biazon, who was also former AFP Chief of Staff and former Congressman of the Lone District of Muntinlupa City, bade farewell from this world and ended a long and productive life at the ripe age of 88,” according to the resolution. It added that “even as we mourn his huge loss and commiserate with his family, most especially his wife ‘Monchie’ and his son, our very own City Mayor, Rozzano Rufino B. Biazon, during their sad and difficult time, we also celebrate his well-spent life, in particular the good example he left behind: his love of country and his loyalty to the Constitution and his oath of office as a public servant, most especially when he put his life on the line in defending democracy during the EDSA People Power Revolution of 1986 and during the several coup attempts against the administration of the late democracy icon, former President Corazon C. Aquino.” The resolution stated that Biazon’s “good example in public service has inspired many Filipinos who joined the government, both in the military and civilian sectors, including his son who became congressman and now mayor of the City of Muntinlupa.” “As Senator and Congressman, he championed the right of the people to decent and affordable housing and was instrumental in the relocation of thousands of people living along the Muntinlupa railways to the in-city NHA Southville 3 housing project in the 50-hectare lot located in the NBP Reservation in Muntinlupa City,” it added.  According to the measure, “despite his poor family background, he was able to finish college, working his way  from elementary to high school to finishing his course at the Philippine Military Academy and inspired many schoolchildren when he recounted his story during graduation ceremonies in our schools.” The City Council said that “his humble beginnings and his rise to becoming the top soldier in the country and his election in both houses of congress speak  well of the trust and confidence reposed upon him by our former President and the rest of the Filipino people.” “We salute him for his courage, his achievements as well as his commitment to freedom and democracy and it is our duty and obligation to continue his legacy of public service for the benefit of our fellow Muntinlupeños and our beloved country,” the resolution stated.  Biazon will be buried on June 20 at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig.
