The official said she visited these private and public learning institutions to assess best practices in Brunei’s education system which may be adopted in the Philippines.

"Nakikita natin 'yung pagtuturo nila ng Quran sa kanilang mga learners. Magagamit natin 'yon doon sa ating mga eskuwelahan na nasa BARMM (We see that they are teaching the Quran to their learners. We can use that in our schools in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao),” Duterte said in an interview with GMA Integrated News.

Duterte, accompanied by school principals and officials from Brunei Ministry of Education, shared photos of her visit to the schools. Joining them was SEAMEO Secretariat Director Datuk Dr. Habibah.

The Vice President arrived in Brunei last Sunday, June 11, to fulfill her duties as president of SEAMEO which she has led since the 52nd SEAMEO Vocational and Technical Education (VOCTECH) Council Conference in Manila in February.

Her three-day official visit included her meeting with Royal Highness Crown Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah and the Filipino community in Brunei in commemorating the 125th anniversary of Philippine Independence.

She also met with SEAMEO VOCTECH officials to discuss strategies to further raise the quality of education in Southeast Asian region.

Duterte said she witnessed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) of SEAMEO VOCTECH with Universiti Brunei Darussalam and Philippine Normal University (PNU) as “new research and training partners.”

During her Brunei trip, she likewise attended the exhibition on digital and e-learning tools used by Seri Mulia Sarjana International School.
