Novaliches Bishop Emeritus Antonio R. Tobias will preside over a high mass (Misa Mayor) at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13, at the St. Anthony de Padua Parish in Singalong, Manila, in solemn commemoration of the Feast of Saint Anthony (San Antonio) de Padua, a Doctor of the Church and the patron saint of the poor and of lost things.
Five holy masses will be celebrated at the parish on Tuesday with the first mass to be held at 6 a.m. and the last mass to be held at 6:15 p.m. This year’s feast of St. Anthony coincides with the 117th parish fiesta. St. Anthony’s bread will be distributed after all the holy masses. Novena masses were held from June 4 to 12. At the Santuario de San Antonio Parish in Forbes Park, Makati City, Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula will preside over the fiesta mass on Tuesday, June 13, at 6 p.m. A procession will be held on Monday, June 12, after the 6 p.m. holy mass. Born and raised by a wealthy family in Lisbon, Portugal on August 15, 1195, St. Anthony first joined the Augustinian Order before joining the Franciscan Order in 1221. He gave up his wealth to be a servant of God. Many miracles were reported during his lifetime including the apparition of the Infant Jesus. He died on June 13, 1231and was buried at the Basilica of St. Anthony in Padua, Italy. The Portuguese Catholic priest was canonized by Pope Gregory IX on May 30, 1232. He was declared a Doctor of the Church on January 16, 1946. To this day, St. Anthony is often invoked for the recovery of lost things. His image is portrayed carrying the Infant Jesus in memory of the apparition.
