ZAMBOANGA CITY – Mayor John Dalipe urged his constituents to be united in achieving a peaceful and prosperous city and country during the 125th anniversary celebration of Philippine independence at Plaza Rizal here on Monday, June 12.

(Photo via Liza Jocson) “Let us be the torch bearers of their aspiration, the custodian of their dreams,” Dalipe said, referring to the sacrifices of revolutionaries who strived to gain Philippine Independence. He also reminded the public of the changes he promised during his campaign and which he continues to implement in the city. The Independence Day rites, Dalipe’s first in his administration, was also attended by Zamboanga City Rep. Khymer Olaso, Vice Mayor Josephine Pareja, city councilors, and representatives from the military, police, national government agencies, and civic sector. The theme for this year’s celebration was “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan (Freedom. Future. History).”
