TACLOBAN CITY – A 36-year-old laborer was shot and wounded after he allegedly attempted to steal a policeman’s motorcycle on Sunday, June 11, in Baybay City, Leyte.
The suspect was identified as Marcelo Modesto of Barangay Hibunawan, Baybay City.
Initial investigation said that the victim, Police Staff Sgt. Emmanuel Cayanes, was on duty when he suddenly heard the engine of a motorcycle start from where he parked his motorcycle.
Cayanes stood up and saw the suspect on board his motorcycle.
He called the suspect's attention by asking who he was and telling him that he is the owner of the motorcycle.
However, the suspect just glanced at him and drove away, prompting Cayanes to draw his firearm and shoot Modesto.
Modesto sustained a bullet wound in the left thigh and crashed. He was arrested and taken by the Baybay Emergency Response Unit (BERU) to the hospital for treatment.
