Rainy weather to prevail in Metro Manila, other parts of Luzon due to enhanced 'habagat'
Severe tropical storm Chedeng (international name: Guchol) has left the country’s area of responsibility on Sunday night, June 11, but the southwest monsoon or “habagat” is still expected to bring occasional rains to Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon in the next three days, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
PAGASA said Chedeng was last spotted 1,375 kilometers east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon around 10 p.m. on Sunday.
“Chedeng and a possible frontal system north of extreme Northern Luzon on Tuesday (June 13) will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon. This weather system will continue to bring occasional to monsoon rains over the western portions of Luzon in the next three days,” it said.
PAGASA issued a heavy rainfall outlook for several areas in Luzon due to the expected occasional rains caused by the enhanced habagat.
Until Monday night, June 12, occasional heavy rains may prevail over Metro Manila, Bulacan, Benguet, Occidental Mindoro, northern portion of Palawan including Calamian and Cuyo Islands, and Antique, and occasional intense rains over Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, and Bataan.
PAGASA said Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, and Bataan may continue to experience occasional heavy rains until Tuesday night.
By Wednesday, June 14, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan may still experience occasional heavy rains due to the habagat.
“Under these conditions, flooding and rain-induced landslides are possible, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards,” PAGASA warned.

Severe winds, rough seas
Over the next two days, PAGASA said the enhancement of the southwest monsoon may result in “gusty” conditions over several Luzon areas, particularly along the coast and in upland/mountainous areas exposed to winds. These areas include Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Nueva Vizcaya, Central Luzon, Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Bicol Region, and Western Visayas. “Gusty conditions may continue for most of Luzon from Tuesday onwards as the southwest monsoon will continue to be enhanced due to the possible formation of a frontal system north of extreme Northern Luzon,” PAGASA pointed out. Chedeng may also bring moderate to rough seas over the northern and western seaboards of Northern Luzon and the western seaboard of Central Luzon in the next 24 hours. Mariners of small seacraft are advised to exercise caution when venturing out to sea. “If inexperienced or operating ill-equipped vessels, avoid navigating in these conditions,” PAGASA said.
