Based on an advisory from Malacañang, the Chief Executive will attend the Independence Day anniversary rites at Rizal Park, then host an event for dignitaries in Malacañang Palace in the afternoon.

The event on Monday, which will begin at 8 a.m., will start with flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony at the Rizal National Monument.

The second part will be the Araw ng Kalayaan Grand Parade at the Quirino Grandstand.

Ahead of the commemoration, the President underscored the importance of the youth learning about the country’s history.

“It's important that we know our people's history so we would learn from our mistakes in the past and not repeat them,” Marcos said in Filipino during the recent opening of the Malacañang Heritage Tours.

“We should replicate the good things we did in the past,” he added.

Rizal Park is the historic urban park dedicated to Philippine national hero Dr. Jose Rizal. It was also where he was executed in Dec. 1896 for the crime of rebellion for inciting revolution through his writings.

At 5 p.m. on the same day, Marcos will host the 2023 Independence Day Vin D’ Honneur in Malacañang for foreign diplomats.

The Philippines gained independence from Spain in 1898 after more than 300 years of colonization.
