Cordova) Tomasz Danel, Vice Consul of Poland Embassy in Manila, led the opening of BLS International Poland Visa Application Center at the Apple One Equicom Tower at the Cebu Business Park. Danel welcomed the opening of the visa application center, saying that Poland has become a popular destination for Filipino workers. With the opening of the visa application center, those coming from the Visayas and Mindanao will no longer have to go to Manila to process their Polish visa application, said Danel. Danel disclosed that Filipino skilled workers, especially those in the construction industry, are in demand in Poland. He said a lack of workforce due to an aging population and the war in Ukraine is being experienced in Poland. There is high demand for construction workers, welders, pipe fitters, as well as drivers in Poland, he said. "We see the growing number of applicants for work. Poland is becoming more and more popular among Filipinos as a destination for work and the number is growing every year," Danel said. Danel added that last year, the Polish government issued over 2,000 work permits which is an increase of almost 100 percent compared to the previous years. "For now, we have a shortage of jobs in Poland due to the aging population as well as the war in Ukraine. We used to have many Ukrainians working in Poland because it is easy for them to cross the border for work. Now, they have to return back home so there are a lot of vacancies right now," Danel said. In the first five months of this year, Danel said it was expected that the application for work permits from Filipino skilled workers would double. "We see the highest number of skilled workers like construction workers, welders, pipe fitters Another category are drivers. They are really really needed in Poland and in Europe and we are seeing the growing numbers of those applications,” Danel said. Danel added that currently, there are about 15,000 to 20,000 Filipino workers in Poland. The new visa application center in Cebu can process at least 10 applications per day.
