Man dead, four hurt in SUV-bus collision in Negros town

BACOLOD CITY – A man was killed while four others were injured after a sports utility vehicle (SUV) collided with a passenger bus in Kalaparan, Barangay Pilar, Hinigaran, Negros Occidental on Wednesday, May 31.

(Photo courtesy of Hinigaran Municipal Fire Station) Police identified the fatality as Jennybert Eliver, 31, of Barangay Santo Rosario, Binalbagan town, Negros Occidental. Police Staff Sgt. Vedianold Peñalber, traffic investigator of the Hinigaran Municipal Police Station, said Eliver, the driver of the SUV, was on his way to Hinigaran to fetch his live-in partner when the incident happened. Some witnesses saw the SUV was already swerving before it overlapped into the opposite lane and collided with the bus. The SUV fell into a sugarcane field. The victim was brought to a hospital where he died. Peñalber said the bus was on its way to Kabankalan City. The bus driver and three of his eight passengers suffered minor injuries, he added. He said there was already an initial settlement between the two parties.
